About Us

Seattle Buddhist Center

The Seattle Buddhist Center is part of an international Buddhist movement known as the Triratna Buddhist Community (formerly the Friends of the Western Buddhist Order) which aims to make available the teachings and practices of Buddhism in a form accessible to those in the West. The Center offers a range of activities and resources to further these aims. We are entirely volunteer-run.

Ethical Guidelines

The Seattle Buddhist Center, as part of the Triratna Buddhist Community, aims to support the awakening of the individual in an atmosphere of kindness, safety, and positive spiritual support.

These guidelines are of particular relevance to all those who are engaged in teaching, leading, supporting or administering Buddhist activities at the Center, although we hope and recommend that they are observed by anyone attending the Center as well.

Our Volunteers

The Buddhist Centre

Council

The SBC Council is responsible for the general oversight and operations of the Center. This includes the spiritual, ethical and financial well-being of the Center, development of policies and plans, effective management and communication, and healthy ethical guidelines. We encourage the Sangha to participate in the operations of the center and welcome feedback and questions.

Current members: Rob Devney, Neil Macneale, Steve Minor, John Ricker, Patti Ricker, Taraprabha (Chair)

Teaching Kula

As part of the worldwide Triratna Buddhist Community we operate in a spirit of friendship and generosity, practicing and teaching Buddhism and meditation to anyone who is interested. The Teaching Kula is responsible for planning, evaluating and participating in the Center’s teaching program assuring it reflects the perspective of the Triratna Buddhist Community. It encourages and supports the development of new teachers and liaisons with visiting Order Members, working with, and reporting to the Council.

Current members: Amaradhi, Karunashanti, Taraprabha

Friends

Various friends help us with building our shrine, cleaning the Center, stocking supplies, and maintaining the Center bookstore. A big thank you to all those who generously volunteer their time and energy!
